Year 2009 - streamlining businesses and creating new value

In the year 2009 much of our time was dedicated to streamlining our existing businesses and creating new value. Among the many activities we were engaged in two in particular are worth mentioning.
We launched Poland's largest e-books store, www.bezkartek.pl, with over 140 thousand e-books. We were also engaged in growing the business of Wind Mobile, Poland's leading company with solutions for telecommunications operators.
We are looking forward an exciting 2010.

Investment approach
How do we work
We launch our own ideas as well as help entrepreneurs in transforming their ideas into companies. We do that by providing financing as well as business and technological know-how at the very early stage of a company's development. Initially ideas are launched as projects within Apetonic. For each project we hire a project leader who later becomes the CEO and partner of the start-up.

What differentiates us from a Venture Capital fund
Our activities are less formalized, we are able to take very quick decisions, and we work close with the management of the start-up on a daily basis support. Due to the very high risk we take, we expect very high profits. The size of our investments is also smaller compared to typical VC projects. We are able to designate no more than 100.000 Euro in each project.
We believe however, that VCs might be good partners for realizing the second round of investment in our portfolio companies.

Goals
Our main goal is to provide substantial returns to entrepreneurs, employees and investors by launching businesses that make a difference.

Igor Bokun
Igor is a private entrepreneur with 10+ years experience in IT and telecom industry. Being the founder of several high-tech startups he has gathered valuable experience in developing teams and strategies from scratch as well as co-operating with venture capital funds including Intel Capital, Raiffeisen Private Equity Management and Renaissance Partners. What drives his business activities is a passion for experiencing the transformation of an idea of a business challenge into the reality.

Peter Frey
Peter has been living and working in Warsaw since 1999. Peter was responsible for running customer service and eBusiness activities at DWS Mutual Funds in Poland, Deutsche Bank Group between 1999 and 2004. In 2002 Peter also spent half a year at DWS Investments in Frankfurt. Between 2004 and 2006 Peter worked with management consulting at the Swedish Trade Council, assisting Scandinavian companies growing their businesses on the Polish market.
Peter graduated from the School of Economics and Management at Lund University in Sweden with a Master of Science in International Economics. Peter speaks fluently Polish, Swedish, English and has good understanding of German.

Tomasz Skalczynski
Tomasz is a private entrepreneur with IT background. Together with his colleague, Kamil Nagrodzki, he has started, developed and managed numerous enterprises including NetSprint.pl, Plagiat.pl, Esentia.pl and Astatis.com. Simultaneously they have run Skalczynski Nagrodzki consulting, delivering highly efficient and scalable computer systems for telecommunications, banks, financial institutions etc. Tomasz is a graduate from the Institute of Informatics, Applied Mathematics and Mechanics.

Piotr Michna
Witold Piotr Michna has some 25 years' experience in the investment business, with the last 15 years specializing in the CEE region. During the 1980's he was in institutional equity sales at Warburg, Becker, Paribas, at Citicorp Scrimgeour Vickers, and Paribas, where he held positions of increasing responsibility to head of equities. Since 1991, he has focused on the CEE region. He has been a founder and managing director of the Poland Growth Fund, the Raiffeisen CEE Private Equity Fund as well as one of the first independent investment banks in Poland. He is currently a director of the Old and New Europe Fund, a hedge fund focusing on CEE and a director at Nourican Ltd, an investment company which has stakes in a diversified portfolio of companies in the region.

Kamil Nagrodzki
Kamil is a private entrepreneur with IT background. Together with his colleague, Tomasz Skalczynski, he has started and developed numerous enterprises including NetSprint.pl, Plagiat.pl, Esentia.pl and Astatis.com. Simultaneously they have run Skalczynski Nagrodzki consulting, delivering highly efficient and scalable computer systems for telecommunications, banks, financial institutions etc. Kamil is a graduate from the Institute of Informatics, Applied Mathematics and Mechanics.

What should be included in the executive summary?
* Information about yourself, your experience, motivation and the ability to handle risk at the early stage of the project
* Description of the product or service and what differentiates it from existing solutions
* Market need and competitive landscape
* Selling strategy (channels) and market positioning
* 2 year's financial projection summary and cash requirements (a fairly detailed cost calculation and a rough estimation of the expected revenues). Think about how to increase revenues by factor of 2. Then think again and find a way to increase revenues by factor of 10. Now you are ready to submit to us the proposal.

It won't be easy...
You have to be prepared that the first 1-2 years will be very tough for you, your basic salary will be low, and you will work very hard and face hundreds of difficulties. If you overcome those difficulties you will be awarded by over average profits and satisfaction.

SNCube enters US market

The Apetonic advisory company has signed a partner agreement with the San Diego, USA based firm neubloc, LCC. Within the scope of cooperation SNCube, which is a part of the Apetonic portfolio, will provide neubloc with consultancy services related to software development and maintenance. The concept of cooperation is based on connecting neubloc’s local customer service with the services provided by engineers from SNCube. Work over projects will take place in Warsaw and USA.

In the late ‘90s a group of experienced American executives from Silicon Valley realized a series of successful projects consisting in restructuring technological firms from High Tech sector. They were also interested in establishing conglomeration of US-based firms and Central and Eastern European companies to serve as back facilities for their own activities. This resulted in forming the subsequent companies: Ameritege Technology Partners, Neubloc LLC and in the end Neubloc Sp. z o.o. The three companies have capital ties with number of companies located in US, Poland and EU.

Apetonic signs a PLN 2 million contract

In February 2007, Apetonic signed a contract, worth above PLN 2 million, with a large company from the Internet sector, for realization of a highly critical system. Realization of the system will take 20 months. Details of the contract are confidential.

Apetonic advisory company has entered into an investment contract under which it will acquire a minority stake in Esentia.pl – the owner of the biggest Polish internet online store selling cosmetics and beauty products.

"Esentia.pl is the leader in the e-commerce segment of cosmetics and beauty products and we favorably assess the company’s development potential. Through Apetonic’s investment Esentia.pl will intensify its marketing activities. We hope that thanks to our investment within the next three years the company will increase revenue on sales at the rate considerably exceeding the market." – says Peter Frey, President, Apetonic company.

Codido awarded Złoty Bit in the industry sector

At this year's "IT w Przemyśle Gigacon” conference Codido platform was awarded the "Złoty Bit” prize. During the conference the company presented implementation of a quality management application used in a production company. The prize has been awarded based on the result of voting. It was the second award for Codido in 2007 – earlier, in May, Codido platform was awarded the best CRM product.

Codido is a framework for building simple database applications supporting company operations. Through Codido development of specialist database systems is as easy as building a blog. Clients use Codido to build CRM systems, helpdesk applications, document circulation systems and many other minor tools such as work records, license registers, contract and power of attorney files.

Penetrator and Dirlango to invest in Codido

Codido Sp. z o.o. has entered into an investment contract under which Dom Maklerski Penetrator and the Dirlango Trading & Investments fund have acquired a new issue of the company shares.

Codido specializes in the development of back-office database applications that support company operations.

"Codido is the first venture launched by the Apetonic advisory company. For the last two years we have done a considerable grassroots work through investing in the Codido technological platform, establishing the company structure, creating its marketing image and winning over customers. Today, Codido is in the phase of dynamic development and support of the new capital partners is extremely important to us. We see a lot of challenges in 2008, out of which the most critical are expansion abroad and delivery of systems in the Software as a Service (SaaS) model" – says Igor Bokun, President and CEO, Codido.

"We realize two types of projects within the Apetonic advisory company. Codido belongs to projects that are realized from scratch. We begin with a business concept and a vision and start developing a new dynamic firm. The other group of projects includes typical private equity investments.
We are very happy of the fact that within less than two years we managed to transform an idea written on a piece of paper into a dynamically developing company running its business also outside the territory of Poland. In November Peter Michna joined the Apetonic advisory company. Peter will be responsible for raising capital for new investments of Apetonic.

The Apetonic advisory company launched an advisory company Central East European Partners (CEE Partners). The goal of CEE Partners is providing support for Polish and foreign firms in establishing business relations and developing their business within the Central and Eastern Europe region. Apetonic has launched a new project - Kardiograf.pl. Kardiograf monitors availability of WWW pages and measures the time of their loading. In situations when the time of loading is too long or in case some errors have appeared during loading, Kardiograf notifies of the problems both, the persons in charge of the business and the system administrator through sending an e-mail or SMS. In consequence, losses resulting from incorrect system operation are reduced. May 22, at 6 pm, in the hall of Collegium Civitas, President of Warsaw, Hanna Gronkiewicz Waltz has met with the citizens of the capital city and the representatives of non-governmental organizations.

The debate was initiated by Warsaw non-governmental organizations as a part of the campaign "You Have a Vote, You Have a Choice" (Polish: “Masz Głos Masz Wybór”) coordinated by the Stefan Batory Foundation and School of Leaders Association. Codido Sp. z o.o. was one of the sponsors of this debate.

The main goal of the meeting was signing by Mrs. President the declaration under which she is obliged to realize specified targets during her term of office and until the end of this year.

Problems covered by the declaration included among others:

decentralization of the Warsaw City Hall entitlements through transferring the competences to the district authorities,

citizen and entrepreneur-friendly administration,

facilitating the process of obtaining grants from EU

The debate is only a prelude to the project, which next stage will consist in monitoring the course of realization of targets included in the declaration and informing about the extent to which the said obligations are being fulfilled.

Warsaw non-governmental organizations are currently working on the detailed plan for monitoring the entire term of office. It will be possible to check on the course of monitoring on the official blog of Nationwide Citizen Service SejMisja.pl (blog.sejmisja.pl) and in the form of reports on the project’s website Masz Głos Masz Wybór.

"Złoty BIT CRM" award for Codido

The Codido platform has been awarded "Złoty Bit CRM" at CRM GigCon conference, winning against, among others, the CRM system by Microsoft.

Codido is a framework for building simple database applications supporting company operations. The company provides clients with technology through which development of specialist database systems is as easy as building a blog.
